A pair of cognac coloured leather club armchairs with tub backs and decorative nailing. Originally manufactured in the 1920/30’s. New feather seat cushions in green George Smith cotton velvet. Condition: Both seats have been rewebbed and springs checked for damage. One of the seats has been stripped back for repair and one of the inside seams on the back re-saddle stitched. Original leather panels are overall in good condition for age with some scuffs and scratches. New feather seat cushions in George Smith dark claret cotton velvet (colour Kenya). These armchairs are in original good condition and are rather stylish. Jindrich Halabala was one of the most celebrated Czech furniture designers of the 20th century, Halabala worked as head designer for the United Arts and Crafts manufacturing company (UP) in Brno between 1930 and 1946. He was a significant advocate of modernist, industrially manufactured furniture in Czechoslovakia and had a tremendous influence on the interior design of many interwar and postwar Czech homes. Furniture attributable to Jindrich Halabala are much sought after today. A beautiful pair of bronze and brass altar vases wonderfully decorated with grapes, orange blossoms, grape leaves and corns supported by decorative scrolled bases. The arms / branches of the vases are intentionally made of brass (which is a bit softer than bronze) so they can be adjusted / bent to the desired position. I have taken some pictures through a magnifying glass illuminated by a torch so you are able to see the paintwork. They are beautiful images and the lighter hues catch the light amazingly. They have tramlines down each side, I imagine from the printing process, I don’t think they were initially stored very carefully as there are some minor flaws to the images, I have photographed these as best I can and would urge you to scrutinize the photos to satisfy yourself about the condition. I have had these on my walls for many years now and have not found them a distraction. On the rear of “Cupid weaves his mystic charm” There is a label from the printers and in pencil Cupid Charm written on the back. The mount is taped to this painting, I didn’t want to start peeling the tape or even dare slice it away, so I have left it alone. A very rare pair of unrestored Art Deco wall lights for restoration. They were recently removed from a house in Wales. The manufacturers name is stamped into the backplate. Tarnished chrome metal work. Acrylic front panels which have been over painted with emulsion paint that can be removed. Classic Art Deco design. 2 glass panels are missing from one of the sconces, these would be easy to replace. The hinges and catches work very well. Each sconce has a brass lamp holder. I would date these lights Circa 1920. They require easily rewiring. There are lots of paint to remove. This item is exactly as we found it. We do not compromise any item by cleaning or polishing, you receive the item in its original condition as we found it in. This is an old item it will show signs of use and wear fading – scratches to the chrome. Measurements are approximate, if they are critical, please contact me.
